Residents are encouraged to dig out their expiring waste vouchers and redeem them before August 31 to save up to $140 on a trip to the tip.
As part of keeping Brisbane clean, green and sustainable, households are issued ten waste vouchers each financial year to dispose of green and general waste for free at Council resource recovery centres.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said a free trip to the tip was a great incentive to clean up around the home .
“As households look to tighten the belt straps, any cost saving is a win,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Our free waste vouchers cover up to a tonne of waste, saving households on average $140 a year.
“Last year residents used more than 1 million vouchers and saved more than $14 million in disposal costs.
“The Schrinner Council will continue to provide concessions to residents for vital services like waste disposal, while also championing responsible waste management”
While the 2022-issued vouchers will expire on 31 August 2023, residents will soon receive a brand new pack of 2023-24 vouchers.
Waste vouchers are accepted at Council’s four resource recovery centres in Chandler, Ferny Grove, Nudgee, and Willawong.
Open every day of the year, the resource recovery centres provide additional services for residents looking to drop off waste.
“Another great initiative residents can take advantage of is Council’s free household hazardous waste collection drop off days throughout the year,” Cr Schrinner said.
“With the next drop off take taking place on Saturday September 2nd, at Chandler these drop off days ensure residents dispose of their waste safely and responsibly.
“For those looking to donate or pick up pre-loved items, Council’s Treasure Troves are the perfect place to give an item a second chance at life while reducing waste to landfill.
“Brisbane continues to work towards being Australia’s cleanest and greenest city, and initiatives like these continue to keep Brisbane beautiful.”
