Brisbane families have more reasons than ever to get outside, with a wave of upcoming playground improvements and more than 2,100 parks to make the most of these school holidays.
More than $117 million in the Schrinner Council’s 2026-27 Budget will be invested into upgrading parks, delivering new picnic shelters, barbecues, sports parks, exercise equipment, playgrounds, landscaping, footpaths, toilets and lighting right across the city.
From local favourites to hidden gems, these upgrades mean better spaces to play, relax and spend time together – without spending a cent.

Quotes attributable to Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner
“Brisbane’s playgrounds are some of the best in the country and we’re investing more in upgrades across our suburbs to make them even better.
“Our parks are a big reason Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital and why we were named the world’s most family friendly city, with more than 2,100 to explore.
“We want families to get outside, stay active and make the most of these great spaces right on their doorstep.
“School holidays don’t have to cost a fortune – pack a picnic, head to your local park and let the kids take the lead.”
