A major congestion-busting intersection upgrade to improve safety for Brisbane and Logan motorists has been delivered.
The Rochedale Road and Priestdale Road intersection upgrade was officially opened today.
The project was jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Brisbane and Logan city councils – with the final project cost set to be well under the $41.3 million initially budgeted.
Major works began in January 2022 to remove the old roundabout and replace it with a signalised intersection, widen Rochedale Road to four lanes through the intersection and install dedicated turning lanes on all approaches to the intersection.
The upgrade also delivered new on-road cycle lanes, with off-road shared paths improving the safety and connectivity for active transport users, as well as allowing students to get to and from school more safely.

“Our Government is investing in critical infrastructure like this right across Queensland and the nation, supporting construction jobs and economic stimulus while delivering the road and rail upgrades Australians need to stay connected safely and efficiently.”
Quotes attributable to Federal Treasurer and Member for Rankin Jim Chalmers:
“I’ve lived in this area most of my life and I went to school on this same road, so I know how dangerous and busy this roundabout could get during peak times and how badly it needed an upgrade.
“I fought for this project while in Opposition and I’m proud to see it funded and now finished under our new federal Labor Government delivering for our community.
“About 19,200 vehicles pass through this intersection every day and it was often heavily congested, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up times.
“This upgrade will keep our kids safer and cut commute times in our community and it’s terrific to see it finished.”
Quotes attributable to Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner:
“This intersection upgrade is a critical project to one of the fastest-growing areas of southeast Queensland.
“By working closely together, our three governments have delivered this critical project which is exactly what motorists want to see.
“Almost 20,000 vehicles a day were using the old roundabout, including many parents who have children that attend the several schools nearby. Traffic on this part of the road network is expected to increase as more new residents move into this growing area.
“We all want motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to get home sooner and safer and this new congestion-busting intersection, which includes shared paths and pedestrian crossings, will help ensure that happens.”
Quotes attributable to City of Logan Mayor Darren Power:
“This is a key intersection for City of Logan residents, with thousands of motorists using it every day,” Cr Power said.
“It’s an important piece of the road network in our city.
“We are proud to have played a part in this collaboration to get this intersection fixed.
“It will improve safety for all road users.”
