Brisbane’s first new public golf course in more than 70 years has swung into action with thousands of residents already booked in to tee off.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner will today officially open the Minnippi Golf & Range at Cannon Hill with a family fun day planned to celebrate Brisbane’s first public golf course in more than 70 years.
“This is more than just a golf course, it’s a family-friendly destination that will provide more to see and do for all ages and interests,” Cr Schrinner said.
“This 125-hectare former landfill site has been transformed into a magnificent golf course that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
“Today we celebrate a new destination for golf lovers that is also the first and only 18-hole public golf course south of the Brisbane River.”
To officially mark the opening of Minnippi Golf & Range there will be a Family Fun Day held on site today, Sunday 3 September, from 10am to 3pm with live music, food trucks and activities for the whole family.
Clublinks Chief Operating Officer Anthony Edgar said the long-awaited opening marked a thrilling milestone for Brisbane City Council and Clublinks.
“The outpouring of engagement has been incredible with more than 2000 tee times already booked, more than 2600 subscribers to the database and hundreds of enquiries,” Mr Edgar said.
“We have had an unbelievable response from the community in just a few short weeks and the quickly-filling tee booking sheet shows the community is bursting with just as much excitement about the new facilities as we are.
“The golf course and driving range are now open ready to welcome the first hitters, while the contemporary food and beverage ‘Cooee Café & Restaurant’ will open in the coming months.
“The full food and beverage offerings at Minnippi Golf & Range are just around the corner, but in the meantime, there are temporary facilities serving a range of delicious options that’ll keep visitors refreshed and ready to conquer the course.
“We are very proud to be opening this facility and look forward to seeing the happiness and connection Minnippi Golf & Range fosters within the community.”
Councillor for Doboy Lisa Atwood said the new public golf course at Cannon Hill was a fantastic addition to Brisbane’s southside.
“Residents have been asking me for months when the golf course will open, and I’m so excited to open this new facility with a family fun day for the community,” Cr Atwood said.
Minnippi Golf & Range will include:
- A unique design the means the course can be played as 18, nine, six and three holes.
