A record-breaking ‘Big Fill’ pothole blitz filled one hole every two minutes during its peak, with the Schrinner Council going full throttle to repair potholes following recent wet weather.
More than 1800 potholes were filled over a five-day period from 19 to 23 May, with 565 potholes filled during the blitz’s peak on Thursday, 21 May.
The ‘Big Fill’ represents a nearly 130 per cent increase in the number of potholes filled per day so far this year.
Around 100 tonnes of asphalt were used as part of the citywide operation, adding to the 47,645 potholes filled to the end of April alone.
Following severe wet weather, more than 1134 potholes were reported as part of the Schrinner Council’s ‘Big Fill’ campaign with multiple crews working around the clock to eclipse previous daily repair records.
Dedicated crews continue to respond and repair damage caused by recent inclement weather across Council’s 5700-kilometre road network.
Heavy rain on 18 and 19 May impacted local streets, opening up new potholes across Brisbane.
Up until the recent blitz, crews were repairing an average of 157 potholes every day across the city.
Rain remains enemy number one for roads, with water penetrating and weakening pavement structures beneath heavy traffic loads.
Residents are being urged to help identify potholes so crews can find and fill them fast.
Urgent potholes are inspected and made safe within 24 hours, while non-urgent potholes are responded to within seven business days.
The ‘Big Fill’ campaign is backed by a major resurfacing program delivering smoother and safer roads across Brisbane.
Since 1 July 2025, more than 177,000 tonnes of asphalt has been laid across the city’s road network, an additional 75,000 tonnes compared to the previous financial year.
More than 200 resurfacing projects have already been completed this financial year, including upgrades to key routes such as Ipswich Road, Compton Road and Vulture Street.
Residents can report potholes by calling 3403 8888 or lodging a request online.
