More than 500 free and affordable events for the whole family are being supported by the Schrinner Council during the September school holidays.
Podcasting 101, Dungeons and Dragons tournaments, musical theatre workshops and live performances with life-sized koalas are just a few of the new free activities on offer in Brisbane.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said with living costs on the rise, Council’s extensive range of events and activities during the holidays were even more important for parents and carers.
“Every parent knows the challenge of keeping kids entertained and active during school holidays and that’s only become harder with rising living costs,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Our Council is committed to ensuring our libraries, parks, pools, and stages come alive with free and affordable events to help keep the whole family entertained.
“With the top end of our program costing just $15 a person, there are endless opportunities for fun here in Brisbane.”
Events include the new cosmic Skydome shows at the Planetarium and light up the night with glow in the dark mini golf at the St Lucia Golf Course which both cost $15 a person.
For $10 a game, teams can battle it out to become laser tag champions at Laserforce in Woolloongabba.
For $6 a person, kids can access expert workshops in abseiling, fishing, diving, kayaking and everything else in between.
Cr Schrinner said free events include podcasting classes and tabletop game tournaments at Council libraries and free musical theatre workshops that will transform Roma St Parklands into Brisbane’s Broadway.
“If you prefer to watch from the audience, Victoria Park will be hosting a new live stage with special guest host Blinky Bill and our City Hall concerts will bring exciting guest artists to the heart of the city,” he said.
“Planning a day out for the family often come at a cost however we don’t want fun dropping off the agenda of Brisbane families.
“Our events calendar makes sure that every interest is catered for to keep boredom at bay over the holiday break.”
Cr Schrinner urged families to book in advance to secure their spot on the holiday calendar.
“While many of the activities over the September holidays are free of charge, most require booking in advance,” he said.
“Council will continue to offer fantastic events for kids of all ages as we help residents make the most of the school holidays here in Brisbane.”
Saving on Space Exploration
