The final addition to Brisbane’s double-decker CityCat fleet is now in service to keep Brisbane moving.
Mirbarpa II is the 10th double-decker vessel delivered by the Schrinner Council and marks the completion of delivering the upgraded fleet.
More than 4.1 million passengers used the ferry network in 2023/24, and this jumped to over 5.7 million in 2024/25 as residents and visitors embraced the unique experience of travelling on the Brisbane River.
Since the first double-decker CityCat launched in 2019, the nine NextGen CityCats have logged a remarkable 191,000 engine hours combined – equal to nearly 22 years of continuous service.
Mirbarpa II was named after the first-generation vessel that launched in 1996 and is a European interpretation of a name for Indooroopilly in the language of Brisbane’s Indigenous people.
The vessel was christened by Brisbane Lions AFLW player Jennifer Dunne.
Ms Dunne joined the Brisbane Lions as a defensive force in 2023 and has been a key contributor to the team’s strong performance over the past three seasons.
All ten vessels have been delivered on schedule.
The Mirbarpa II arrives in a landmark year for Brisbane travel, following the rollout of the New Bus Network, the launch of M1 and M2 Metro services and the opening of the Adelaide Street tunnel.
