Community groups have the chance to be awarded up to $200,000 for projects that maintain, improve and develop their facilities under the latest round of the Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grants.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner today announced the second round of the highly-successful program targeting community facilities was open with grants between $10,000 and $200,000 available.
“Local clubs and groups are important parts of their communities, bringing people together to participate in sport and other activities,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Our Council is committed to supporting these clubs because we recognise the critical role they play helping local communities be happy and healthy.
“The Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grants is another great example of our support for clubs, providing much-needed funds to help them improve their facilities.
“Helping our clubs create better facilities ensures they attract more locals, ensuring Brisbane remains a great place to live, work and relax.”
Last year’s recipients in the Community Facilities category included bowls clubs, archery clubs and local arts venue Metro Arts
The Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grants launched in 2021 with two categories – Community Support and Community Facilities.
Since the launch, 162 groups have received funding of more than $3.3 million.
Cr Schrinner encouraged community groups to apply, saying the grants were flexible and able to be used for the planning, design or construction phases of projects.
“Previous recipients of the grants have been able to deliver new bowling greens, clubhouse upgrades, building refurbishments and roof replacements,” he said.
“These are projects that make a big impact on the communities that use and rely on these facilities every day.”
Local businesses, community groups and not-for-profits can also find additional funding opportunities through Council’s new Funding Finder program.
“Our newly launched Funding Finder program gives residents access to GrantGuru’s national database of grant and funding opportunities,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Armed with a comprehensive list of grant and funding opportunities, this free service means groups across Brisbane can keep track of funding opportunities and sign up to receive email alerts about new grant programs.”
Applications for the Better Suburbs Grants close on 13 March 2023.
