Travelling on the Brisbane River is set to get even better with the addition of three new cross river ferry services from 28 January 2025.
Following community consultation on the Kangaroo Point Ferry Improvement Plan, the Schrinner Council will keep Brisbane moving by delivering more KittyCat services, more often.
New cross-river services will run between:
- Maritime Museum and QUT Gardens Point
- Holman Street and Riverside
- Dockside and Sydney Street.
By reconfiguring the CityHopper and inner-city Cross River ferry routes, residents and visitors can now expect a service every 15 minutes, more than doubling the existing frequency of between 30 and 36-minutes.
All services will also be included under the State Government’s 50 Cent Fares initiative.
East Brisbane residents will also receive a major boost to services from 9 December, with the return of CityCat services to the Mowbray Park terminal following a major upgrade.
The new terminal can now berth two CityCats at once to cater for Brisbane’s growing inner-eastern suburbs.
More than 50,000 hours of work on the new terminal has also delivered accessible design features, a refurbished waiting area, flood resilient walkway, improved lighting, CCTV safety camera and landscaping works.
People boarding from the Mowbray Park terminal will have direct access to Howard Smith Wharves for the first time once services recommence on 9 December.
Howard Smith Wharves was first added to the CityCat network in May this year.
Since then, an average of 60,000 passengers a month have accessed the Howard Smith Wharves terminal to travel to and from the lifestyle precinct.
The resumption of services from Mowbray Park will increase the number of operational CityCat terminals on the network from 18 to 19, which will require adjustments to the CityCat timetable.
From 9 December, CityCats trips will alternate their stopping pattern between Apollo Road and Milton terminals, in both directions. This means that only every second service will stop at these terminals.
These terminals were selected due to lower comparative patronage and the ample amount of alternative public transport nearby.
All other terminals will maintain current service frequencies.
