Whether it’s skateboarding, star gazing or sinking a line, Council has school holidays covered during the Winter break.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said school holidays don’t have to be expensive, with hundreds of free and affordable options available over the June-July break.
“With the cost of living being at the forefront of our minds, it’s great to know that there’s so many free and affordable activities and events to explore in Brisbane,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Our libraries are the perfect first stop on the holiday agenda, with free activities on offer every day of the week, like robot programming, Lego building, chess lessons and arts and crafts.
“Bookworms might like to get involved in Council’s 2023 Gold Star Reading Club for primary school kids or the Little Stars Reading Club for little ones aged up to five years, where they can take part in fun challenges and earn reading rewards.
“Council’s Active and Healthy program has more than 70 family-friendly sessions throughout the school holidays (24 June – 9 July) to entice kids out of the house and get little bodies moving.
“Kids can warm up and keep active with the popular Kids Collective program at Victoria Park or explore the 64 hectares of park through orienteering.
“For nature lovers, there are adventure walks in Graceville, multicultural games at Lota Camping reserve, eco-photography workshops at the Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens and environmental exploration session at the Council Environment Centres.
Cr Schrinner said there are also some great options for tweens and teens that won’t break the bank.
“In week one of the school holidays, adventurous kids could spend the day abseiling at Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park, kayaking in Nudgee Reserve and fishing at Shorncliffe and still get change from $20,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Or maybe learn a new skill with skateboarding, hip-hop, or martial arts lessons available across Brisbane.
“Parents and kids can also have an out-of-this-world experience at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium these school holidays with adult tickets at children’s prices for 9:30am and 10:30am children’s shows.
“But remember, our free and affordable events are hugely popular and will book out quickly, so jump online today and see what’s happening in your local area.”
