More than 15,000 residents a day are set to save this summer thanks to the Schrinner Council’s $2 Summer Dips.
Launching the initiative at Newmarket Pool today, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner urged all Brisbane residents take advantage of this key Council cost-of-living initiative.
“With summer officially here, we want residents to make the most of Council’s 22 pools and our $2 Summer Dips,” Cr Schrinner said.
“We recognised that rising costs are impacting residents and that school holidays can be expensive times for families.
“That’s why our budget included $80 million worth of cost-of-living initiatives for all Brisbane residents.”
The $2 Summer Dips initiative will run from December 1st 2023 to February 29th 2024 and will apply to adult and children general entry fees to Council’s pool facilities, including on public holidays.
Under the initiative, an adult entry fee will be reduced from up to $6.40 to $2.
For an adult who swims once a week during summer, the saving would be up to $57.20.
The cost of taking a family of four will fall from up to $20.15 to $8. A family who goes to their local pool six times throughout the summer will save up to $72.90.
Anyone accompanying a person with a disability who requires attendant care support will continue to get free entry.
The initiative applies to general entry fees and does not extend to other paid facilities co-located at Council pools, including waterparks, swim classes, gyms, hydrotherapy, diving platforms and any separately ticketed events and facilities.
Cr Schrinner said about 15,000 people a day used Council’s pools last summer and even more are expected this summer.
“I’m confident this initiative will encourage residents of all ages to get active, cool down and have some affordable fun at our pools this summer,” he said.
“Importantly, there’s no limit. Residents can go as often as they like to their local pool and continue to save.”
Cr Schrinner said lowering entry costs is just part of Council’s free and affordable program over the holidays.
“As a parent of four young kids, I know planning for the school holidays can be a daunting task but nothing beats a day out at the local pool, ” he said.
“Dropping the general admission fee to pools across the suburbs will relieve some of the cost pressures associated with the summer break and allow residents to get out and enjoy our fantastic outdoor lifestyle on a budget.
“If swimming isn’t your thing, Council has a fantastic line up of free and affordable holiday activities across the suburbs to make summer even better in Brisbane.”
