The Schrinner Council’s much-anticipated $2 Summer Dips initiative kicks off in less than a week.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said more than 15,000 residents a day will benefit from the key cost-of-living initiative.
“Rising costs are impacting residents right throughout Brisbane and that’s why our budget included $80 million in cost-of-living initiatives,” Cr Schrinner said.
“One of the key measures was our $2 Summer Dips which will benefit tens of thousands of residents of all ages throughout the holiday period.
“There’s no limit. Residents will be able to go as often as they like to their local pool and continue to save.
“We hope the initiative will encourage residents to get active, cool down, save money and have fun throughout summer.”
The $2 Summer Dips initiative kicks off on December 1st and applies to adult and children general entry fees to Council’s pool facilities, including on public holidays.
Under the initiative, an adult entry fee will be reduced from up to $6.40 to $2.
For an adult who swims once a week during summer, the saving would be up to $57.20.
The cost of taking a family of four will fall from up to $20.15 to $8. A family who goes to their local pool six times throughout the summer will save up to $72.90.
Anyone accompanying a person with a disability who requires attendant care support will continue to get free entry.
The initiative applies to general entry fees and does not extend to other paid facilities co-located at Council pools, including waterparks, swim classes, gyms, hydrotherapy, diving platforms and any separately ticketed events and facilities.
Cr Schrinner said lowering entry costs will encourage families to make the most of Council’s free and affordable program over the holidays.
“Our communities are full of busy families who are already planning their holiday fun, and I can’t think of a better day out than at the local pool,” he said.
“Dropping the entry fee to pools across the suburbs will relieve some of the cost pressures associated with the summer break and allow residents to get out and enjoy our fantastic outdoor lifestyle on a budget.
“If swimming isn’t your thing, Council has a fantastic line up of free and affordable holiday activities across the suburbs to make summer even better in Brisbane.”
