Brisbane City Council is sending love to all safe drivers this weekend with a smiling heart face on Brisbane’s Slow for SAM signs.
The lovely reminders can be seen by drivers travelling below the speed limit at 188 rotating locations across the city.
Visual cues are one of the best and easiest ways to remind drivers of the importance of safety and Slow for SAMs have proven highly effective in getting people to slow down, helping to reduce speed by up to an average of 8.3km/hr.
The Schrinner Council Administration has plans to spread the love to more Brisbane streets, with another 100 permanent Slow for SAMs to be installed outside Brisbane schools.
Brisbane residents have become well-acquainted with SAM’s smiling face since 2013, with special themes rolled out throughout the year, including bunny rabbits at Easter, Jack-O-Lanterns at Halloween, footballs during football season and Santas at Christmas.
Wildlife SAMs are also installed across Brisbane to help protect and maintain our city’s wildlife, including alerts during koala breeding season.
SAM is an acronym which stands for Safety Awareness Monitor.
