Mt Gravatt’s central business hub is set to be transformed to create more homes, more jobs and more lifestyle opportunities close to high-frequency public transport.
The Logan Road corridor, from Glindemann Park to the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds, will be the third precinct to progress under the Schrinner Council’s Suburban Renewal Precincts program.
Suburban Renewal Precincts are a key part of the Schrinner Council’s plan to create more housing opportunities by converting under-utilised commercial and industrial areas into mixed-use precincts with attached homes.
Unlike the large-scale neighbourhood planning process, the suburban renewal precinct program looks to unlock opportunities for new homes and jobs in smaller, well-located suburban areas.
The Mt Gravatt precinct area is surrounded by major employment hubs such as Westfield Mt Gravatt, Mt Gravatt Plaza and the Homemaker Centre as well as high-frequency bus services along Logan Road.
There are currently around 1,500 properties within the precinct area, including homes and businesses, with close to 40 per cent of the suburbs’ residents renting.
Council will work with stakeholders to create a vision for the area that will revitalise the precinct with higher density housing and a mix of cafes, restaurants, retail and services while maximising the existing high-frequency public transport and open space.
The Suburban Renewal Precincts program is a key initiative of the Schrinner Council’s Housing Supply Action Plan to encourage more homes to be built sooner in well-serviced areas while protecting Brisbane’s tin and timber suburbs.

- Review of Brisbane’s major centres (Carindale, Chermside, Mt Gravatt, Indooroopilly, Toombul and Toowong)
A draft Mt Gravatt precinct plan will be released for community consultation in the coming months, with State Government approval required before the plan is adopted by Council.
