Nearly 300 Brisbane sporting and community clubs have received a $7 million boost through the Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grants since the program launched in 2021.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner this week distributed almost $400,000 to 50 non-profit groups to future-proof community clubs right across the city.
Up to $11,000 was awarded to each club through the second round of the “Community Support” category.
More than 100 community clubs have received funding through the Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs grant program over the past year to help them grow their organisations and make their facilities even better.
Since the program began, across both categories, 298 groups have received a share of more than $7.1 million.
Local businesses, community groups and not-for-profits can also find additional funding opportunities through Council’s Funding Finder program, which gives applicants access to GrantGuru’s national database.
Successful applicants include environmental groups like Wolston and Centenary Catchments who will put their funding towards monitoring urban wildlife at reserves in Wacol and Riverhills.
Sporting organisations like Warehouse Cricket Association Inc will improve on site amenities for players to use and enjoy.
Special interest groups will also be catered to with the Brisbane River Dragons Dragon Boat and Outrigger Canoe Club allocating funds towards replacing an unsafe canoe with a newer, carbon fire model.
The Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grants was launched in 2021 with “Community Support” and “Community Facility” categories.
Applications for the next round of applications for the Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grants opens in August 2024.
