Discover the rich history of a riverside suburb on the Schrinner Council’s latest Brisbane Greeter Walking Tour.
Starting today, the free ‘Milton Greet’ walk reveals the suburb’s fascinating history from early settlement to modern day.
Milton was one of the earliest areas outside the original town of Brisbane to be settled by Europeans in the early 1850s.
From past historic residences and places of worship to sports venues and public artworks, the guided tour shines a spotlight on some of Milton’s hidden spaces and local gems.
Highlights include the World War II Air Raid Shelter, Milton House, Suncorp Stadium, the Cemetery Memorial Reserve and Afghanistan Memorial Garden.
The tour takes between two to three hours to complete and can be easily adjusted to accommodate attendee needs.
This is the 14th walk to be added to the Brisbane Greeters program since tours began in 2012.
More than 110,000 people have taken part in a Brisbane Greeter walking tour since the program began.
The guided walks are facilitated by a team of 75 Greeters, who deliver tours in a number of languages and cater for a range of ages and abilities.
Bookings can be made by visiting www.brisbane.qld.gov.au or calling Council on 3403 8888.
