The Schrinner Council will this year deliver a suite of city-shaping projects that will support more than 3400 local jobs and help pave the way for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said his Council’s plan for infrastructure projects right across Brisbane in 2022 would be a major catalyst for fast-tracking economic recovery while ensuring the city was on track to deliver the best ever Olympic and Paralympic games.
“This year we’re breaking ground on projects right across the city as part of the biggest ever infrastructure investment ever undertaken by Council,” Cr Schrinner said.
“We’re fast-tracking construction of our Kangaroo Point and Breakfast Creek green bridges and kicking off the delivery of Dockside ferry terminal upgrade.
“The transformative Moggill Road Corridor Upgrade Project will forge ahead, and we’ll release the final vision for Brisbane’s new mega-park Victoria Park to the community, which is set to incorporate a temporary Olympic equestrian track.
“Major projects will help drive economic recovery and support thousands of jobs. Locally-sourced materials and resources on these projects will generate significant flow-on benefits for local businesses, including structural steel from Crestmead, piling materials from Pinkenba and Stapylton, concrete resources from Kelvin Grove and Bowen Hills and signage from Jindalee.
“We’re determined to continue investing in major infrastructure projects because they not only help residents get home sooner and safer, but they ensure Brisbane maintains the best lifestyle in Australia, if not the world.”
In 2022, residents right across the city will benefit from a range of suburban projects from intersection upgrades to work ramping up on the Brisbane Metro Project, which itself will support 2600 jobs.
“In north Brisbane, a selection of crucial road upgrades will be completed including Stage 2 of the Norris Road Upgrade (in Bracken Ridge) and the Melton Road and Hows Road intersection upgrade in Nundah. In the South, the Newnham Road and Wecker Road intersection upgrade and Rochedale Road and Priestdale Road intersection upgrade will also reach completion,” Cr Schrinner said.
“On the river, our fleet of Double Decker CityCats will grow with CityCat 26 to hit the water this year, with local ship building business Aus Ships in Murrarie to commence work on CityCat 27.
“Work to deliver the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge is already underway, with work on the Breakfast Creek Green Bridge to start mid-year.
“The face of our city is changing dramatically and the projects we are delivering serve as a tangible reminder that our economy is making a strong comeback off the back of two incredibly tough years.”
