More than 225 free or low-cost boredom-buster activities will be part of Brisbane City Council’s spring school holiday schedule.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the jam-packed schedule included activities for all ages and interests.
“From abseiling and kayaking to comic book classes and remote-controlled LEGO, Council has a full two-week itinerary to keep the kids entertained these school holidays,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Busting boredom doesn’t have to break the bank, with activities free, or at a very low cost.
“There’s also a whole lot of free fun outside of the planned program, with parks and playgrounds right across the city.
“We’ve invested heavily in our suburbs, and you’ll never be too far from a new place to explore, be it on foot or two wheels.
The new scooter track at Shaftesbury Street Park in Tarragindi will let kids of all abilities put their skills to the test as they navigate the track.
“In the city’s west, Bellbowrie’s newly upgraded Booker Place Skate Park provides a challenge themselves across several obstacles from the free-standing quarter pipe to the volcan fun box.
“For the budding ninja warriors at home, Council’s newly completed ninja course at Teralba Park offers a fun way to stay active and healthy over the break.”
Cr Schrinner said with the scheduled activities it was important to make a booking to avoid disappointment.
“For those who love adventure, there more than 100 Chillout sessions scheduled under Council’s Active and Healthy program including always-popular activities such as abseiling the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, kayaking games on the Brisbane River, skateboard lessons and freestyle scooter coaching,” he said.
“Our environment centres will also be hosting yoga in the forest, bushwalking, pottery workshops, teddy bear games and Love Food Hate Waste workshops focusing on healthy and sustainable food.
“For curious kids, our libraries will feature more than 40 school holiday workshops and classes, including cultural journeys with Uncle Burragun sharing Dreamtime stories, music and dance, nature art, and bug-themed STEM sessions at Brisbane Square Library.
“The school holidays are a perfect time to become a library member if you aren’t already. Joining up is free for Brisbane residents and gives you access to endless entertainment for the kids throughout the holidays from books, e-books and digital resources including Kinderling Kids Radio.
“And for inspiring young astronomers, The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium will be open throughout the holidays with their immersive children’s shows including Tycho Goes to Mars, The Little Star That Could and Destination: Universe.”
