Brisbane is gearing up for a huge spring and summer, with free and affordable events filling the calendar through to Christmas.
From world-class arts and international cultural celebrations to books, hobbies and family-friendly fun, there’s something for every age and interest as Brisbane continues to cement its reputation as Australia’s lifestyle capital.
Brisbane Festival will transform the city with theatre, music, dance, circus and public art from 4-26 September, kicking off with Riverfire lighting up the skyline and riverfront on Saturday 5 September.
Also returning on 5 September is Matsuri Brisbane, a free celebration of Japanese culture.
Expected to attract more than 30,000 people, this year’s festival will also mark 50 years of friendship and cooperation between Japan and Australia.
At Museum of Brisbane, The Red Dress brings together embroidery from hundreds of contributors across 51 countries to tell stories of identity, resilience and creativity.
The exhibition runs until 13 September.
Book lovers can hear from more than 200 authors when Brisbane Writers Festival takes over Brisbane Powerhouse from 8-11 October.
The Gaming, Hobby and Model Expo follows at the RNA Showgrounds in November, with plenty on offer for enthusiasts and families.
Then, before we know it, Christmas will arrive with plenty of festive events across the city and suburbs to help residents celebrate close to home.
