Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has welcomed the Federal Government’s support for key city-shaping projects along with major road upgrades that will help ensure Brisbane motorists get home sooner and safer.
Cr Schrinner said the 2022 Federal Budget investment into Brisbane Metro, the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge and road upgrades would deliver jobs for residents and inject money into the local economy.
“While our focus is on supporting our city’s recovery and residents in the aftermath of the floods, we also continue to build infrastructure that is critical for our city’s future,” he said.
“Brisbane is Australia’s fastest growing capital and we welcome the Federal Government’s commitment to improving how residents and visitors travel around our city while also creating jobs and supporting the local economy.
“Brisbane Metro will transform the way we travel in our city and the Budget confirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to this project with a $300 million investment in addition to City Deal funding for the Gabba station.
“The fact this project is support by all three levels of government demonstrates how important Brisbane Metro will be to the future of our public transport system.
“We also welcome the Federal Government’s support for the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge.
“This bridge will be one of Brisbane’s most-highly anticipated projects and a crucial connection to the Gabba during the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Cr Schrinner said the Budget also showed how his Council and the Federal Government continued to tackle congestion.
“We’re delivering transformative projects like the Moggill Road Corridor upgrade, the Beams Road upgrade and crucial intersection fixes such as Rochedale Road and Priestdale Road and Newnham and Wecker Road,” he said.
Federal Government investments in Brisbane projects confirmed in budget:
- $22.5 million for the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games 2032 – Business Case Development
- $2.0 million over 2 years from 2021-22 to support delivery of the VIRTUS Oceania Asia Games 2022 in Brisbane for athletes with an intellectual impairment
- $300 million for Brisbane Metro
- $150 million for Gabba Transport Improvements
- $60 million for Kangaroo Point Green Bridge
- Better Roads for Brisbane funding from the Urban Congestion Fund:
- Beams Road Upgrade $50 million
- Moggill Road Corridor $50 million
- Newnham and Wecker Road intersection upgrade $12 million
- Norris Road $5 million
- Rochedale Road and Priestdale Road intersection $14 million
