Community groups eager to improve their facilities could share in $2 million with the Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grants opening from tomorrow.
The Community Facility grant category opens Monday 21 August and closes Monday 9 October 2023.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said this grant round would see non-for-profit groups apply for funding to maintain and improve their community facilities.
“Whether they are clubhouses, workshops or outdoor sporting greens, our community facilities are the central hubs that make our suburbs great places to live,” Cr Schrinner said.
“This grant round will allow groups to apply for funding between $10,000 and $200,000 to improve the quality and accessibility of existing facilities or progress projects currently underway.
“Council is proud to support the growth of local non-for-profits here in Brisbane by contributing funding to the improvement of community spaces.”
Since the Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grant Program began in 2021, Council had delivered more than $4.7 million in funding for 223 non-for-profit community organisations.
In the last round of grants New Farm United Junior Soccer Club received more than $190,000 to upgrade on-site change room facilities for current and future players.
The Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Sport & Recreation Association of QLD received a $67,000 grant to produce a masterplan for a para-sports and skate sports site to be delivered at the Balmoral Bowls Club in Morningside.
“Brisbane is the fastest growing capital city in Australia. As families and individuals move into our suburbs, non-for-profit groups can provide a space to make new friends and find a community,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Through these grants, Council is able to compliment the incredible work that these local groups do to connect residents and make Brisbane even better.”
