The citywide rollout of green waste recycling bins to every eligible household is now more than 50 per cent complete.
Almost 79,000 bins have been delivered to eligible households in 107 different suburbs since 1 July.
A further approximately 76,000 bins set to be delivered across 76 more suburbs by Christmas.
Around 310,000 green-lid bins are expected to be in circulation once the rollout is complete.
This rollout was announced in the 2025-26 Budget to expand green waste recycling and reduce landfill.
Since green bins were first introduced in 2010, more than 230,000 tonnes of garden waste have been diverted from landfill and turned into valuable mulch and compost.
With the expansion now halfway complete, Brisbane is on track to divert up to an additional 80,000 tonnes of green waste each year.
Renters are now eligible to receive a green bin for the first time, and households who already compost or manage garden waste differently can opt out if they choose.
The rollout is funded through the State Government’s Grow FOGO program, while ongoing collection and processing remain the responsibility of Council.
