From backyard barbecues to poolside fun and community celebrations, Brisbane is set for a big Australia Day filled with local events for all ages.
On Monday 26 January, the city will host its annual citizenship ceremony at Brisbane City Hall, with more than 500 people expected to become new citizens on Australia’s national day.
There’ll also be plenty of free and affordable activities happening across the city for families, friends and neighbours to celebrate.
Council pools will continue to offer $2 general entry as part of the $2 Summer Dips initiative, running until 28 February.
Australia Day pool parties will be held at Langlands, Jindalee, Colmslie and Parkinson pools, with inflatable obstacle courses, games, music, dive-in movies and classic Aussie snacks like sausage sizzles and Zooper Doopers.
At South Bank, Great Australian Bites will dish up tasting plates from local pop-up restaurants and popular food vendors, alongside live performances by local musicians.
Our crews have also been busy getting the city ready for the long weekend, mowing parklands, cleaning barbecues and amenities, and making sure public spaces are clean and ready to use.
Those keen to keep things simple can fire up a barbecue or relax with family and friends in one of more than 2,100 parks across Brisbane.
Bin collections will continue as normal on Australia Day and our resource recovery centres will remain open.
Public transport will operate on a Sunday and public holiday timetable, with buses and CityCat services running throughout the day.
Some community facilities, libraries and attractions will close for the public holiday, while spaces like Brisbane’s botanic gardens will remain open.
