Brisbane City Markets are getting a major expansion, with up to 80 vendors, Friday night markets and new family-friendly experiences set to transform the heart of the CBD.
The popular weekly markets, operated by Goodwill Projects, currently feature around 60 vendors each Wednesday and will expand to up to 80 stalls over the next year.
The expansion will give residents, workers and visitors even more opportunities to shop, snack and sip as we make the Queen Street Mall an even more vibrant destination.
The expanded markets will also introduce:
• cooking demonstrations
• cultural flavour months
• guided tours
• public play areas with giant games and board game tables
These new attractions will create even more to see and do for families, visitors and city workers.
Brisbane City Markets will also launch Friday night markets, with the first to be held on 26 September.
At least two evening market events are planned this year, with four scheduled in 2027, encouraging more people into the CBD after dark.
After expanding into Queen Street Mall in 2024, the next chapter of the City Markets will build on strong foot traffic during the weekly Wednesday market and bring even more people to the city centre.
In 2026, more than 39 million movements were recorded across the Queen Street Mall.
This peaked in April where the Mall saw an average of 226,000 movements and more than 284,000 movements on Friday 17 April alone – the final Friday of the school holidays.
The expansion comes as Queen Street Mall undergoes its biggest transformation in decades, with the major renewal of Uptown, Griffith University’s transformation of the Treasury Building, Cross River Rail and significant private investment reshaping Brisbane’s CBD.
Brisbane’s thriving outdoor market scene continues to grow, with dozens of markets across the suburbs offering everything from fresh local produce and artisan goods to street food, live music and handmade gifts.
Whether it’s picking up fresh produce at Rocklea, enjoying breakfast by the river at the Brisbane Powerhouse, or wandering the waterfront markets at Manly, there’s a Brisbane market experience in all corners of the city.
Brisbane’s markets provide valuable opportunities for local growers, makers, artists and small businesses while creating more places where people can connect and enjoy Brisbane’s outdoor lifestyle.
Goodwill Projects has operated Brisbane City Markets since 2019 and will continue to operate them for at least the next three years.
Residents can visit Brisbane City Markets every Wednesday from 8am to 5pm in Reddacliff Place at the top of Queen Street Mall. The first Friday night market will be held from 4pm to 9pm on Friday 26 September.
