Brisbane residents have backed bold ideas to shape the city’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy, with the Schrinner Council’s Making Our Mark campaign driving a strong community response.
In just six weeks, almost 20,000 votes were cast, showing strong support for ideas that will shape Brisbane before, during and long after the Games flame is extinguished.
Residents have made it clear they want a more connected, vibrant Brisbane, one that proudly embraces our subtropical lifestyle and distinctive outdoor way of life.
From shaded tree-lined links to 24-hour precincts, the message is clear – Brisbane is thinking big, thinking local and planning for the long game.
Top five legacy ideas:
The Green Grid, connecting venues and destinations with safe, shaded links
The Low Line, transforming underused space into an activated precinct
24-hour precincts, to boost the night-time economy
Brisbane Metro expansion, delivering more turn-up-and-go services
Loving the Leftovers, creating urban sports parks from underused land
Making Our Mark captured 56 ideas from residents, young people, businesses, community leaders and sporting figures.
Locals didn’t just vote; they shared feedback, sparked new ideas and helped pinpoint the legacy Brisbane wants to see delivered.
The outcomes reinforce Brisbane’s vision as an easier city to move around and Australia’s lifestyle capital.
The campaign reached more than 940,000 people and generated almost four million impressions across digital channels.
With six years to go, the Schrinner Council will incorporate this feedback into our City of Brisbane Legacy Plan, to be released later this year.
This won’t be just a wish list. It will be a blueprint for developers, the private sector and governments to step up, partner with us and invest in Brisbane’s future.
