A century of compassion and service will be celebrated today as Sister Angela Mary Doyle RSM AO receives the Keys to the City.
Beloved community leader and tireless advocate for those in need, Sr Angela Mary will today become the 59th recipient of Brisbane’s highest civic honour.
Her remarkable contribution to the people of Brisbane will be recognised at a special Civic Reception that will also celebrate her 100th birthday.
The Keys to the City represent the highest honour a city can bestow on an individual or an organisation, with just 58 recipients in Brisbane’s 100-year history.
Additionally, Sr Angela Mary will become only the second person to have a Brisbane Metro named in her honour.
For more than seven decades, Sr Angela Mary has devoted her life to serving others through faith, compassion and community spirit.
Sr Angela Mary’s dedication to education, health, and social justice has touched countless lives across Brisbane.
From her immense impact on Queensland’s healthcare system through her leadership at the Mater Hospital, to her unwavering compassion during the AIDS epidemic, Sr Angela Mary’s courage and humanity have inspired generations.
She has also played a pivotal role in supporting newly arrived migrants and refugees, building stronger multicultural connections across the city and advocating for those experiencing disadvantage and marginalisation.
Other recipients of Keys to the City include The Bee Gees, Savage Garden, Red Frogs, the SES, Li Cunxin AO, and the Australian Olympic and Paralympic sporting teams.
